• Our HistoryTen years ago, the South Brunswick Recreation Department asked the Princeton Family YMCA for assistance in serving the community. Soon after, the Monmouth Junction First Aid Squad partnered with the YMCA for office space and the YMCA began offering sports programs in the local schools. The YMCA then initiated an outreach effort by offering community-wide special events and fundraising for the creation of a full facility. Ultimately, the Princeton Family YMCA Board of Directors chartered the South Brunswick services as a branch operation, established by-laws and financing was secured to purchase the 26-acre site at 329 Culver Road, Monmouth Junction. In 2001, 19,000 of the 32,000 square feet of the building were retrofitted and the YMCA opened its doors for the first time. Today the facility includes a 20' x 40' teaching pool, a dance studio, Fitness Center, gymnastics center and a state licensed child development center. We offer a wide range of programs from our Parent/Tot gymnastics classes to arthritis classes for seniors. The South Brunswick Family YMCA also offers full day and part-time child care services for children age 2 months to 5 years. In April 2006, the Y was awarded a $49,243 Community Development Block Grant to construct a 30' by 60' pavilion. Zoning approval was granted by the Township of South Brunswick. The following local businesses donated material and/or provided in-kind services: K&A Excavating, Trap Rock and Wiley Paving. Construction was completed in June 2007. In June 2006, the Y completed the sale of 15.1 acres of land to the Township of South Brunswick for $1.25 million. The proceeds were used to reduce debt, upgrade the Fitness Center and renovate the remaining 12,000 square feet of warehouse space into a Youth Complex. The Youth Complex was officially opened February 10, 2007. In January 2007, the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders awarded the South Brunswick Family YMCA a $3.0 million grant to construct a full-size indoor pool. Cornerstone Architectural Group and Integrated Aquatics has been retained for the pool design. At this time, we are moving forward with completing a full facility site plan which will lay the groundwork for design and construction of the indoor pool. |

• Our Volunteers The South Brunswick Family YMCA welcomes volunteers. Volunteers are the "heart" of the YMCA. Whether it's offering hugs in the nursery, homework help in the classroom or guiding students with disabilities into the pool for the first time... we are grateful to our volunteers. Volunteers work in all areas of the YMCA. In childcare, as coaches or swimming instructors, in fundraising events, our volunteers make the difference. Whether you're a teenager, mother, grandparent or corporate executive, we need you! All it takes is a little time to make a difference in someone's life. If you'd like to get involved and make a difference, send an email or give us a call. |

2009
Youth Volunteer
Of The Year
Mary-Louise Kidaha
Mary-Louise enjoys being around people and working with children. Her quiet demeanor and patience is a calming influence on those around her. Mary-Louise also felt her volunteer time would provided solid experience for future opportunities with the Y movement.
The South Brunswick Family YMCA was very fortunate to have Mary-Louise Kidaha as a volunteer during 2009. She volunteers over 235 hours in various departments at the Y. During her time, Mary-Louise took the time to learn the Y software. Mary-Louise was a tremendous help to both the Membership and Summer Camp staff with their daily operations. She organized membership forms, assisted at the Welcome Center, processed Incident Reports and coordinated all camper information. Mary-Louise was thorough and maintained a positive attitude with all staff.
